Choosing padel shoes: grip, stability and comfort
Padel involves frequent braking, lateral movement and acceleration. Suitable shoes improve stability and reduce the chance of an awkward slip or turn.
Three things to check
A good padel shoe combines court-appropriate grip, lateral support and a secure fit. A very soft running shoe can feel unstable during sharp direction changes.
- The outsole should suit the surface and amount of sand.
- The heel and midfoot should stay secure during lateral movement.
- Leave toe room without allowing the foot to slide inside the shoe.
Do not debut new shoes at an important event
Wear them in at least one easy session first. You will learn whether the socks, lacing or insole need adjusting before several rounds in a row.
A useful organiser reminder
For indoor courts, ask players to bring clean court shoes. It protects the surface and keeps conditions more consistent.
